The books in this series are written for beginning readers who do not want to get stuck reading something boring. The chapters are very short. The first 3 books in the series have footnotes with funny definitions for words that students may not know. A list of characters and their relationship to the protagonist in the front of the book helps them remember who is whom.
In the “Write Your Own Mystery” book (#4), a Table of Contents is listed in the back to help students keep track of which pages they have already read.
The 5th book is about baseball. It has a glossary in the back to help readers remember the definitions of baseball terms and words they may not have heard before. The protagonist becomes a member of a team that is largely made up of players of color, so she learns about their cultures.
