Gardening in the Northwest has unique challenges to say the least. This book will help you navigate them.  This book was written about the Northwest, but many of the tips are applicable to all climates.

I didn't start out as a farmer. Anything but. In fact, I was convinced that I had a black thumb. When my mom moved to Vernonia Oregon, the capital of the floodplain, I had no plans whatsoever to help her grow a garden.

Oregon has its own particular issues. The gardening books on the shelf didn't address what to do about the river running through the middle of the driveway twice a year or explain how to grow in dirt that was red clay. Once plants did start to grow, there were slugs, deer, and rodents that quickly moved in and devoured the crops. Nothing the books said to do was working.

After a while, I tossed the books (unless they were written by Steve Solomon or gleaned from The Seed Guy's facebook page) and started to experiment on my own. This little book is the result of my trial and error. I sincerely hope it makes at least one person decide it is worth the work to have a garden in the great North Wet. That is what motivates me as I type. And may the pods be ever in your favor.

This book has a table of contents to help you pinpoint specific issues in your garden.  There is a recipe for the absolute best fertilizer you can make, which is safe for animals.  In fact, the only thing keeping you from dumping  a ton of it on the whole yard is the cost.  Color photographs make it easy to see points that have been made, and funny text is enjoyable to read as well as instructive.

There are pages in the back of the book to write your own notes as you make discoveries of your own.  This book was written about the Northwest, but many of the tips are applicable to all climates.
