This is the fourth book in The Adventures of Charlie series.
This "write your own story" lets you decide if Charlie pours ants into his bed or if he digs a hole in the yard for her to fall into. The choice is yours at the end of each chapter. Funny footnotes give definitions to big words, and there is a table of contents at the end to help you keep track of which chapters you have already read.
The books in this series are written for beginning readers who do not want to get stuck reading something boring. The chapters are very short.
The first 3 books in the series have footnotes with funny definitions for words they may not know. A list of characters and their relationship to the protagonist in the front of the book helps them remember who is whom.
In this “Write Your Own Mystery” book (#4), a Table of Contents is listed in the back to help students keep track of which pages they have already read.
The 5th book is about baseball. It has a glossary in the back to help readers remember the definitions of baseball terms and words they may not have heard before. The protagonist becomes a member of a team that is largely made up of players of color, so she learns about their cultures.
